The game is takes place during the period of a week. The day section focus on deliveries (hoverboard sections) and the evenings are plot driven dialogue sequences taking place in your apartment building. You will pretty much switch back and forth until you reach the end.
This guide removes any unnecessary actions or options and focuses only on things that achievement related or required to proceed the story. There may possibly be spoilers involved, so read ahead at your own risk.
INTRO
You will start the game at one of the hoverboard sections.
This section is pretty much a tutorial designed to give a feel for the controls. If you have ever played 'Paperboy', then you may have a bit of an advantage. If not, just do your best to avoid enemies/obstacles while delivering noodles (delivering not included in this first tutorial).
Just run through the short section avoiding cars and buildings.
Once you reach the end, you will find yourself in your apartment.
There will be a short sequence on your VR device, then you will walk to the right of your apartment towards the toilet. You will get a phone call that will initiate the first true day of the game. Get ready!
(DAY 1) MONDAY DAY
You have been tasked with delivering noodles to hungry customers. As you drive your hoverboard down the linear path, you will see some people on the left-hand side of the street with pink circles under them. These are your customers. You must throw noodles (
) close enough to the people for it to count. You can slow down if it makes it easier. There is no limit of noodles, so there is no need to conserve ammo.
Your boss tells you that you need to meet a certain criteria, but we want achievements! So, we are going to make all the deliveries. As previously mentioned, you can pause and restart the section if you missed a customer. There are a total of 5 customers on this section. Just make sure you get them all.
Aside from that, the path itself is not overly complicated. Just try to not get too fixated on the customers that you drive into an obstacle. Remember, you have unlimited lives but will always have to start from the beginning of the section. When you deliver all 5 orders and complete the level, you will unlock:
And regardless, completing the section will unlock:
Next, you will have to head home. This is a slightly different hoverboard section. Instead of driving down a perilous street delivering noodles, you are racing down the highway. The must just avoid all cars and make it to the end. You can switch lanes to avoid traffic and throw noodles at any cars to your left to slow them down. For the most part, this is a fairly easy and straightforward section.
(NIGHT 1) MONDAY NIGHT
You will now find yourself in your apartment. The start of every apartment sequence will typically be the same; You will drop your backpack, inspect your toilet area, and then check on your neighbor down the hall. Just expect to do this at the start of every night.
- Drop Backpack
- Head left to Joystick's apartment and talk to him.
- Head to the right and activate elevator.
- Choose Floor 8.
- Walk Left, to Diana's room and talk to her.
- Choose selection 2 - "How are you?" (gives you Diana's URL)
- Return to elevator and go down to floor 7.
- Walk Left, to Eddy's room and talk to him.
- He will give a URL (backintime).
- Return to elevator and go to floor9.
- Walk right, to your room and enter VR.
IMPORTANT: When logged into your VR set, some URLs will prompt the game to proceed to the next day. You may not get a chance to view any other URLs you collected. Be sure to pay attention to the URL address and follow my guide to avoid missing out on achievements.
- Select the URL with 'diana' in the address.
- View pictures.
- Once you unlock that achievement, you can select the other link (backintime).
- When given choices, choose Option 1: "Ignore Instruction..."
- This will launch a simulation and unlock:
During the tutorial, you can now use the
button to dash. This will allow you to move along a little more quickly, but is also used to outrun any enemies that may be chasing you from the rear.
(DAY 2) TUESDAY DAY
You will now start your second day of deliveries. As you can expect, the difficulty will increase a bit with each new day. Don't forget about your new Dash ability. There will be a few more obstacles to avoid and an intersecting street you must cross (ideal place to Dash).
There will be a total of 5 customers on this stage as well. Just be sure you don't miss any (there is an achievement for making all deliveries in the game).
Other than that, there is nothing too crazy.
Once you complete the delivery section, you must now make your way back home.
Here it does get a little crazy. Some psycho in a pizza delivery truck has decided you have been treading on their turf and are looking to run you down.
Just drive down the highway and boost whenever you get a chance. The truck will periodically try and run you down from the rear. Even with a dash boost, you will not outrun him. Instead, you will need to move to the left or right. It is easy to tell when the truck is gunning for you, as their headlights will turn red. As soon as you see the headlights change, get ready to move.
I recommend always trying to dodge to the right. This lets you throw noodles at the truck and temporarily slow them down. After a few iterations, you will learn the pattern and easily dodge the pizza truck.
There seems to be some RNG when it comes to the rest of the traffic though, and it is entirely possible to sandwiched between vehicles with nowhere to go. Again, you have unlimited lives.
You just need to make it the blue finish line so you can get back to your apartment.
(NIGHT 2) TUESDAY NIGHT
This night doesn't have any associated achievements, so we will just stick to the minimum to progress the story.
- Drop backpack, and talk to Joystick.
- Go to Floor 10, go right and talk to Rob for a URL ('Market')
- Go to Floor 9, enter your VR set.
- Choose the 'Market' URL.
- When given a choice, select option 2 - "Show me a catalog..."
This will unlock your next hoverboard upgrade: The Cat bomb. As with the dash, you will enter a quick tutorial on how to use the bomb.
The bomb is a activated with the
button. Similar to the noodles, you will have infinite ammo (although there is a small recharge window between shots).
You will definitely want to start training on your accuracy. Using bombs to take out upcoming enemies/hazards is key the last couple of hoverboard stages. A lot of the timing has to do with your speed. The faster you are going, the further the shot. Slowing back to a crawl will allow you to bomb things right in front of you, but they can occasionally shoot back. So be careful.
The simulation tutorial is short and unimpressive. But you will get a chance to really test it out shortly.
(DAY 3) WEDNESDAY DAY
Start your day like any other, delivery noodles to hungry customers while avoiding hazards. On this day, you will see new hazards that conveniently require use of you new weapon. The range of your cat bomb is fairly consistent, but you can influence that distance based on your speed. While you can slowly roll up to an obstacle or enemy and drop a bomb at its feet, later enemies will not be so passive, requiring more maneuvering on your part. For this reason, I would recommend practicing using your bombs. Specifically, working on the different ranges. A great strategy for later areas is to drive at a decent speed, release a bomb, and then put on the brakes. This will lob the bomb a fair distance while keeping you relatively safe. It won't work in all situations, but you will certainly find more hazardous situations that can be diffused with a well-placed bomb. Just something to consider.
Anyways, there are a total of 5 customers on this stage. Make sure you get them all. There will be some clusters of enemies that can cleared out with your bombs. Ideally, aim for the center of an enemy cluster to take out as many as possible. If you miss one or two, just try and use the clear side to drive past. There is no requirement for killing all enemies, and some are less troublesome to keep alive.
If you manage to successfully deliver all noodles on this stage, you should unlock:
Be warned, this achievement may not unlock until the next stage (even if you are sure you didn't miss any deliveries. If this turns out to be the case, don't fret, it won't really negatively impact your achievement progress in the long run (more on that later).
Otherwise, there isn't anything in this stage that is too crazy. You may need a few restart before you get it all figured out, but extra lives are free in this game.
Per usual, you will need to avoid the crazy pizza delivery van on your way home. The difficulty is turned up a notch, but nothing you cannot handle. You may find other hazards in your way now, but you have bombs to help clear the path. Outlast the van and make your way back home.
(NIGHT 3) WEDNESDAY NIGHT
There is one missable achievement during this section, so be sure to pay attention (or restart the section if you mess it up).
- Drop your bag and talk to Joystick
- Go up to floor 10, and head right to talk to Rob. Choose option 1: "I was just dropping by to see how you were doing" for a URL (LUNA546)
- Go down to floor 8 and head right to talk to Moana for a URL (TIMEISHERE)
- Go up to floor 9 and enter your pod
- Choose the LUNA546 file to view the funeral and unlock an achievement:
- Next, choose the TimeIsHere link. When given a choice, pick "Play a game".
Once you go through the accompanied text, you will be awarded with the Slowdown powerup.
As with the previous upgrades, you will get a chance to try in out via a short tutorial.
I will be honest, I don't use this upgrade very much. It slows everything down (including you), so it doesn't really benefit you other than giving you more reaction time. However, I found that it was actually distracting to change the speed of the game periodically. If you makes your life easier though, feel free to utilize it.
(DAY 4) THURSDAY DAY
Get ready to deliver some noods, because there are a whooping 10 customers to satisfy today.
One thing that you may notice about this stage, is that it is a bit longer. Despite the increased length, there is no checkpoints within the stage. If you mess up (miss a customer) or die, you will be restarting from the beginning.
This is the part of the game that you may really start picking up on the 'trial and error' aspect of the gameplay. Try not to get too frustrated and learn from you mistakes to limit the number of attempts.
This stage will also have a bunch of stationary enemies that can shoot at you. These attacks do not have homing capabilities, so as long as you keep moving, you should be fine. The challenge is to avoid both the attacks (by displacing yourself) and not running into the turrets themselves. I highly recommend using your bombs to take them out. However, don't try slowing down if you miss. It is safer to take your chances driving around. You will probably get a hang of it after restarting for the dozenth (is that a word?) time.
Another challenge you may encounter is doing all this WHILE not missing your noodle deliveries. With an increased number of hazards in the streets, it is easy to overlook a hungry customer on the side of the road.
Don't forget to use your new ability if you want. Crossing the busy intersection is possibly the best place to use it (pair it with your dash as well to get across safely).
Once you finally complete the stage, you still have to contend with the psychotic pizza delivery driver. On the plus side, the difficulty hasn't really changed since the previous night. Just play safe and smart and make it your cozy abode.
Most importantly, we have earned another achievement!
(NIGHT 4) THURSDAY NIGHT
There are a couple of missable achievements in this section, FYI.
- Drop your bag like normal, but inspect your toilet before heading to see Joystick.
- Your toilet will be gone, but you will find a note with a URL (WC.DLC)
- Once you have that URL, head left talk to Joystick
- Go down to floor 8, head right and talk to Moana to unlock Roof Access
- Head to floor 10 and head towards Josh's room. You can access the roof.
- Proceed through dialogue on roof to get a URL (127.0.0.1)
- Head down to floor 9, then right to your VR pod.
- Choose to view the WC.DLC to unlock:
- Next, choose the 127.0.0.1 URL. (Be careful, you must select options in a specific order to get both achievements in the same run!)
- When you get to some dialogue choices, choose "IDDQD". This little easter egg from Doom with unlock:
- Once you have the achievement, select the option: "Load Next Level", and then proceed through the following dialogue boxes to complete the evening
Don't forget, this game does require two full playthroughs, so you will get one more chance if you accidently passed up a missable at any point during this run.
Moving on to Friday.
(DAY 5) FRIDAY DAY
This will be the final day of deliveries. The deliveries are not a huge issue, even though there are a whopping 9 deliveries to make. As you can imagine, this stage is a bit tougher than anything you have experienced previously.
During the first part of the stage, you will need to use your bombs to destroy flame throwers that are inconveniently placed along the route. You don't need to destroy them all, just enough to clear a path. It may take a couple of retries before you learn the layout. Be careful not to forget about deliveries. You will know you missed one on this stage as you are not allowed any delivery failures (failing to deliver an order will count as a loss).
Later in the stage, you will see a whole corridor of those annoying copter drones. You will have to use a combination of well placed bombs and maneuvering (preferably at high speeds) to avoid them and their attacks. You will likely be experiencing a great deal of 'trial and error' deaths before you finally manage to eke out a victory.
On this plus side, you should have made every possible noodle delivery in the game by the end of the stage. This should unlock:
IMPORTANT: For some reason, this achievement did not unlock for me when I finished this stage (even though I didn't miss any deliveries). Instead, it unlocked on the first day of the next playthrough. If it doesn't unlock for you right away, don't fret. You will have to play the game again anyways for an alternate ending. Expect it to unlock early in the campaign though.
Per usual, you will need to avoid the homicidal pizza delivery driver. This time is a bit different, as the streets will be littered with flame thrower hazards. You must just pay attention to the path ahead and coordinate your lane changes to avoid the flames. You can use your bombs to destroy obstacles in your path, but don't forget to keep an eye out for the red headlights behind you. On the plus side, this will be the last time you will be doing on these sections.
(NIGHT 5) FRIDAY NIGHT
This will be your final visit to your apartment building (on this playthrough anyway).
Things have gotten a little strange in your building. You will need to talk to everyone available to collect keys to unlock the 'system' (or something like that).
- Go down to Floor 7 and head left to get key from Eddy.
- Go up to floor 8 and left to get key from Diana.
- On the same floor, head to the right to get a key from Moana.
- Go to floor 9 and head left to get a key from Joystick.
- Continue left and get another key from Rachel (Joystick's AI girlfriend)
- Go up to floor 10 and head right to talk to Rob to get the final key.
- Now that you have all of the keys, head left to gain access to the rooftop.
- Once you are on the rooftop, head right to talk to Roy.
There will be some story enriching dialogue to be read. At the end of the conversation, you will unlock another story-related achievement:
(DAY 6) SATURDAY DAY
I am not going to lie, this is probably the most frustrating section in the entire game.
In addition to enemies from previous stages, you will be introduced to new 'bug' enemies that have some annoying attacks. The most problematic of which are some enemies with projectile attacks that will home in on your location if you are not quick or careful. You will need to replay the stage (i.e, die) many times to memorize the locations of the more troublesome enemies and practice your cat bomb skills to destroy the enemies before they have a chance to fire at you.
If you miss an enemy, chances are you won't avoid its attack unless you are able to move away from it while speeding up. The best strategy is to learn the layouts of the enemies, concentrate on one side (if the section permits) and try to kill them before they have a chance to fire (using your bomb throwing skills from afar). If enemies are far enough away, they should not fire at you (which is why it is best to hug one side of the street if able). You may be tempted to slow down (using your directional controls, not the powerup), but it is almost a death sentence if there are any projectile-based enemies coming up.
Other sections may require a quick dash to avoid enemy attacks, and there is at least one point where you will want to use the slowdown to help navigate through a tight turn. Otherwise, this stage is a culmination of all the frustrating things you have encountered thus far into one huge pain-in-the-ass section.
Keep in the back of your mind that we will still have to do a second playthrough :)
FINAL BOSS
After that nightmare of a stage, we have reached the final boss. Like many a video game, this boss will have multiple phases (three, in this case).
The sections are not too complicated, but requires a bit of multitasking to stay alive. There is a bit of RNG involved, as you can get corralled into a death trap if you are unlucky. Fortunately, each death only puts you back to the beginning of that phase.
PHASE 1:
In this section, you will have barricades and flamethrowers in front of you that you need to avoid. Behind you, if you become too slow, will be chasers that will run you down. Obviously you will want to proceed quickly, but not to the extent that you outrun your maneuverability. Well placed bombs can help clear the obstacles in front of you.
Finally, there will be an enemy will occasionally appear on the left side of the screen. If left unattended, it will shoot you down. It is easy to avoid though, a single yeeted noodle will do the trick. In fact, since you have infinite ammo, you can just spam noodles and never have to worry about this guy.
String all of these strategies together, and you will reach the end of the section. You will know that you have reached the end, as 'road' will turn blue. Be careful though, the change of color makes it harder to see what is ahead. There may still be enemies spawning in front of you, so don't immediately let your guard down when you see the finish line.
PHASE 2:
The next section is similar, just a little more hectic. The flame throwers will rotate, making your path a little more dangerous. They will rotate in a pattern, at fixed intervals. Just anticipate the changes and take the clearest path. Don't slow down too much and keep spamming noodles to keep the side enemies at bay.
Honestly, not a tough section.
PHASE 3:
This is final phase of the boss section and understandably the toughest part. There are two new features added to this section. Most notably, there will now be a giant machine that will be flying in front of you. It will periodically discharge a giant laser. You will need to avoid it (obviously). While dodging the laser isn't tough by itself, you will still have the barricades and flamethrowers strewn about the stage that you must navigate around. Oh, and the side creatures and chasers are still a threat as well.
And, if things weren't hectic enough, the game decides to add an annoying 'static effect' that will partially impede your vision. It is now just a matter of stringing together all of your strategies and make it through the final stretch.
I imagine it will take you a few attempts, but it isn't as difficult as the previous stage (in my opinion). If you made it this far, I believe you will succeed!
Crossing the finish line (for the final time) will earn you an achievement:
CHOICES
After some story-driven narrative, you will find yourself with a choice. The first selection doesn't matter, but the following option will make you decide on whether you want to "Reset the game" (bad ending?), or "Delete Jimmy" (better ending?). Regardless, you will always get a confirmation option just in case you selected the wrong choice. Anyways, there are achievements tied to both of them. Unfortunately, there is no save exploit that I know of that will allow you to nab all of the remaining achievements with only a single playthrough (I did warn you).
Because it will decrease the chance of missing out on an easily missable achievement, we will choose the "Reset the game" option first. This unlocks:
Congrats! You beat the game. Now you just have to do it all over again (I believe in you!)
FROM THE TOP
At this point, start a new game and play through again. This time, you can skip any of the optional quests (for achievements you already unlocked) and just skip to the story-related choices.
If you missed any achievements the first time around, be sure to get them this time through (no need to play through a third time). Also, as previously mentioned, if the achievement didn't unlock for delivering all noodles in all levels, it should unlock early in this run.
Hopefully you haven't forgotten all of you strategies and stage layouts. You should be able to breeze through the first few stages and push through the final stages a little easier than you did your first time through.
Proceed all the way past the final boss and to the final choice.
This time, you will want to "Delete Jimmy". It is what he wants, after all. This time, you will unlock:
WARNING: Do not take the AI advice to reset the game from the menu. Not yet anyways.
You will want to start your game. There won't be much to do, seeing as Jimmy is gone. However, there will be an in-game choice that will pop up. When given the option, you will want to select the option "I like to keep the game broken".
This will unlock the final (hopefully) achievement:
And that is that!
I hope you had fun. This is definitely an interesting game, but could have gone without the multiple playthroughs. Fortunately it isn't too long (skill pending).
Until next time!
