Gears of War Forums officially shutting down in favour of Discord and other social media

Honestly sick and tired of everything moving to Discord servers. I don't want to be a part of a thousand communities I will never engage with, not to mention Discord not being the greatest place to have these conversations anyway. Forums have a place and they do damn well at it.

Not a fan of Discord to be honest, never really got the same vibe from it as good ole fashioned forums. I would imagine TC is doing this just so they can more easily police their community (and save some $$$ by shutting down servers and consolidating their support team)

GameFAQs was one of the premier video game discussion forums but you'd find some games had completely or relatively dead boards but would have completely thriving discussion on a subreddit. If you ever had an issue with a game, a google search would yield multiple reddit threads as the top results.


Funny story about the original Gears forums from the Epic days. I got my first ban on there for logically explaining to a guy that his Gears 3 DLC idea was never getting added to the game. He reported me for "claiming to be an Epic employee" which I never said in any of my posts. Pretty stupid I had to actually ask for an appeal. My account would later get re-banned after I said 'Gears 2 sucks' because that's "trolling" in a thread where someone claimed it was the best in the series. Such a super snowflakey community.

Weird... that doesn't sound like TC!

My only memory of that forum is of one of the mods arguing with me over whether or not I should be angry that I wasn't reimbursed for my boost that was rendered useless by a bug which made it so I could not earn XP for 2 weeks. Good times.

Don’t like it, it has all we fans need, plus all that history I have no interest in signing up for all the other alternatives

TC gets this butthurt in person as well. I grabbed their attention during the Pride parade a couple of years ago and told them to fix Gears Judgment and they full on snubbed me 😂😂😂.

This happens when moderating a forum costs too much. When WoT forum closed, most moved to Reddit, but it's not the same

I haven't used those forums since Judgement so I'm not too bothered. It was a lot of fun back then but lets be real about gaming and entertainment in general, they don't want straight males to have anything for ourselves. Cut it off and join the party or be prepared for hell boys, they hate us.

I used the forums since Gears 2, and I don't want to create an account for Discord/Reddit.

Another garbage decision by The Coalition.. Discussion will be snuffed out.. Troubleshooting will be completely levelled by this.. Good luck searching a discord for posts about broken achievements and fixes/solutions... Then there is the loss of legacy discussions as well.. Be those about the games working or Judgement... Something that has still gone unfixed despite us getting very close to getting it sorted.. That was only possible because of forums and building an audience for threads.... All this just reinforces my desire to never play a Coalition game ever again..

PS... Got sinbinned on the Gears discord by a mod for trying to get a contact number or a email for the studio in which to forward information regarding fixes and interested parties.... That's what I get for trying with this company... I'm still sinbinned over a year later and the mod refuses to even respond to my requests to be taken out of the sinbin something that should have happened after 30 days..... So thats what Gears has to look forward to a even worse community and discussion. Great job Coalition.

It's possible this came down from above The Coalition. Both Halo and Gears outsourced their forums to Discourse, and Forza's official forums also use it. Curious if their days are numbered as well.
